Distinguished Professor Emeritus, Aalto University, School of Chemical Engineering, Aalto, Finland
Jukka Seppälä, Dr.Sc. (Chem. Eng.), is a Distinguished Professor and Professor Emeritus of Polymer Technology at Aalto University, Finland. Following seven years of industrial experience (1979–1986), he transitioned to academia as an Associate Professor at the Helsinki University of Technology. He was promoted to Full Professor in 1991 and was honored with the title of Distinguished Professor at Aalto University in 2022.
Since the early 1990s, Professor Seppälä has been at the forefront of developing renewable polymeric materials, long before sustainability became a global imperative. His research spans the full innovation chain, from molecular-level understanding of polymer structure–property relationships to large-scale engineering and industrial deployment.
Professor Seppälä has authored more than 454 scientific articles and the same number of other types of scientific publications. He is one of the inventors in approximately 50 patents and application families.
Dr. Marta Herrera Sanchez

Dr. Marta Herrera is Assistant Professor at the University of Zaragoza with expertise in food safety, specialising in moulds, mycotoxins and chemical and microbiological hazards along the food chain. She holds a Degree in Veterinary Medicine (2005) and a PhD (2009) from the University of Zaragoza. Her research focuses on risk assessment of food contaminants, advanced analytical techniques (HPLC, LC-MS/MS, GC- MS), and the study of agronomic, environmental and technological factors influencing mycotoxin occurrence, including climate change effects.
She has carried out pre- and postdoctoral stays at leading international institutions, including the JRC-IRMM (European Commission, Belgium) and Wageningen Food Safety Research (The Netherlands), and has experience in research management and technology transfer through a Torres Quevedo contract. Since 2006, she has been a member of the Reference Research Group “Analysis and Evaluation of Food Safety” (A06_23R).
